Work in Canada as an International Student
Canada’s appeal as a study destination is enhanced by the opportunity to work while pursuing education. International students can work up to 20 hours per week during academic terms and full-time during breaks, provided they have a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and the necessary work conditions listed on their study permit. For those without work conditions on their permit, amendments can be made free of charge.
Notably, as per the IRCC update of October 7, 2022, the 20-hour-per-week limit on off-campus work was temporarily lifted from November 15, 2022, to December 31, 2023, allowing students more flexibility.
After completing their studies, students can gain Canadian work experience through the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program, enabling them to work for up to three years, depending on their course duration. Pathways to stay and work in Canada post-graduation include the Post-Graduation Work Permit, Express Entry, and Provincial Nominee Program, providing diverse routes to build a future in Canada.
